Who i am
In a culture that heavily values the instantaneous, music study redirects us to the treasure that is process. Learning to make beautiful, meaningful sound requires truly listening, and a daily dedication to the creative, disciplined process that is practice. Deep listening and a disciplined approach to practice aren't just music skills; they're life skills.

Hi, I'm Jennifer Spohr.
I hold a Master's degree in Piano Performance from the University of Texas at Austin, and I've been teaching piano lessons in St. Louis for more than 20 years. I enjoy working with all ages of students, helping them to discover and develop their individual musical gifts. Many of my students have continued on to careers in music: teachers, pianists, and even a recording producer (!).
My husband and I have raised three boys of our own, so I'm no stranger to the challenges of raising children.
I've taught hundreds of students, all ages. Many have achieved recognition in the Missouri Music Teachers Association (MMTA) Auditions at the State Level---a competition for which they must qualify at the District Level, and compete against other top pianists of their age group statewide. Several have also won top prizes in the St. Louis Area Music Teachers Association's Young Artist Competition.
I teach all levels of classical piano at my private home studio. Dedicated students will learn to become functional musicians and discover their fullest musical potential.
Piano lessons are weekly. The length of the lesson is tailored to the needs of the student. I require my students to practice on a real piano at home between lessons.
Performance opportunities are available throughout the year. Students may enter competitions, play at recitals, or perform in community events.
Check the
page for recital and ensemble appearances!I'm always open to opportunties to play for public or private events.
Please contact me directly if you are interested in booking a performance or are interested in a collaboration.
What I do
From an early age, I've crafted my art as a classical pianist and teacher. In more recent years, I've expanded my repertoire to include organ, vocal, and choral conducting.
